Has it been long enough where everybody pretends that it sucks and isn’t one of the best sequels of all time?
It’s that good IMO. I get why some people think it’s overrated, and that’s fine. But outside of minor gripes from me, it was quite literally as great of a sequel as they could’ve made.
FYI: my main gripe is that none of the younger pilots knew who Maverick was, especially in the bar. He would’ve been an absolute legend for his heroics in the first movie, and presumably would’ve taught at Top Gun for a while. shite, he was still active duty military as of the beginning of the movie. Yet the youngsters had no clue who he was. In a Miramar bar nonetheless, run by a chick very intimately familiar with him? Nah, son.

Happened while they were all in preschool.

Working on some top secret shite that they wouldn’t know about

I thought it had been a while since Penny and Maverick were a thing if at all.

That's exactly what is going on here. A buncha folks that are too cool for school acting like it was just okay. Gimme a frickin break.

I think it's awesome and am glad it was recognized with a best picture nomination, but for me, it doesn't have much replay value.
I wouldn't mind re-watching the last 30 min or so, but don't have much interest in sitting through the entire movie again.
