As far as the job, I’d have done it for you much cheaper, but I hate charging people a lot when I do side jobs.

Well, the reason he figures he can charge less is he's an apprentice who doesn't own a business with all the expenses of running a business like buying all the supplies, tools, salaries and overhead costs like having a shop, liability insurance, workman's comp insurance, vehicle overhead and insurance----insurance insurance----see the common thread here that makes business owners have to charge so much????
