They're building a new home in front of my neighborhood, and i walked the dog the other day and noticed there were some major cracks and holes in the foundation. Looks rough. I know it's normal to have some hairline cracks, but this is on another level.

Will the city do anything/make him fix it or the new owners going to get a house that's off a bit?

Any contractor you talk to will say there’s two types of concrete, one that’s cracked and one that will crack.

If it’s major cracks already, there’s probably something wrong with how they dug the footings. I’d talk to your contractor for sure.

I see your location is San Diego, but if it’s really Louisiana and was poured 2 weeks ago, it was extremely hot and had not rained at all for like 2 weeks.

Some contractors will water the concrete so the water doesn’t evaporate too quickly so it can cure better. If not, then this may have contributed to some of the problem.

Like the other poster said, post some pics. This could just be normal.

i'll try and snap a few pictures when the workers are gone.

I really am curious if this messes with his final inspection if his foundation is jacked or uneven.

There’s going to be a few site inspections prior to the final. Foundation is the first I think.

That isn't something the city would typically be concerned with. They are looking for code violations and adherence to the plan. The time to catch a foundation issue for them was before the concrete was poured.

This heat can do that. There is a lot of room for error in concrete. It has to be really bad at this stage to have any real issues. Especially if they haven't put the full weight of a house on the slab yet. I've also seen house with a post-tension slab where once they tension the cables, those cracks get sucked up pretty good.

Cracks are one thing. Could be bad, could be just kinda normal.

But "holes"?? Can you explain a little more?

Only two kinds of concrete guys, those who don't speak English and 50-year black dudes who smoke four packs/day with forearms bigger than your thigh.
