There’s only one thing for them to do now. Hire El Chelis or Miguel Herrera again. That would be great comedy.
All the El Tri fans I know are furious with the FMF. It’s bad enough to be overmatched by the US, but now even Canada has surpassed them. That really hurts their pride. The gringos that barely invested in the sport until about 10 years ago are lapping them now.
That team is in dire straits. Their good generation of players has aged out, and they don’t have the youngsters to pick up the slack. MLS academies are developing and exporting players with much greater consistency than their Liga MX counterparts, and it’s playing out on the field now.
We all get frustrated with how the USSF is run, and rightly so to a great extent. It will seemingly always be a shell of what it could be with proper leadership and investment. The website even still sucks after all these years. But it’s still a much more stable organization than the FMF. They have way too many hands in the pie making decisions to the detriment of Mexican soccer. They just want to extract money for themselves and the Liga MX teams they own.

Even the youth situation is dire. Their U17 team is still solid but the U20s screwed the pooch and failed to qualify for the WC or the Olympics in 2024.
Until FMF completely disconnects itself from LigaMX I think that national team will continue to suffer.
