OP included it. There's a decent chance his kid rarely knows he's in the same building if he's glued to his phone unless kid is hungry.

Ergo, no reason to feel upset, because he stopped being an involved parent long before this summer trip.

What’s the youngest acceptable age to send your kid to their grandparents for the summer? Asking for a friend.
