Many years ago my grandfather (a preacher all of his life) was called to the bedside of a man who lived a very violent and lawless life, who had no family . My Grandfather said just before the man died that he began screaming that he was burning in fire, and there was smell of fire in the room.

Damn.
Jesus did say that Hell is real.
He also said that Purgatory is real, also.
