I think it was Brodhead who offered Skip the job and he turned it down because Jack LaMabe was still the active coach. Skip said it would be dishonorable, I think he and LaMabe maybe knew each other or were friends.
Brodhead advertised the job, Skip got wind that LaMabe was to be relived of duties, and the rest is history.
I might have missed some of the facts, certainly was not privy to anything other than what I've read.
I knew about LaMabe because I was a big Pirate fan as a kid and he pitched for them at one time
