For engine replacement (removal and install) a good rule of thumb is to expect for the parts to cost the same as the install.
So a $3000 engine would have $3000 in labor. It’s definitely not an exact number and it depends on types of engine, vehicle, etc. but it gives you a basic idea.
Realistically though you are looking at 30- 40ish hours at the removal and install. The shop probably charges in the neighborhood of $100- $125/hr. So $3,000 to $4000 in labor seems normal.
