LSU would not have been a top 8 seed/hosting a super even if they would have won the SECT. Not a chance in hell.

I think you underestimate the degree to which the committee relies on RPI. They may not have ended Top 8, but it was certainly within the realm of possibility given their RPI. They were #6 before the Ole Miss loss. Oklahoma, UCLA, FSU, Oklahoma St and Stanford would definitely have stayed ahead of them based on RPI with Tennessee and Georgia ahead of them based on rankings and conference standings. That would have put LSU at #8. That leaves Washington (#13 RPI), Duke (# 7 RPI before LSU lost), Texas (#9 RPI), Clemson (#14 RPI) and the SEC schools that finished slightly higher in conference but are well below LSU in RPI. None of those schools have such a strong position in other ways that I’m convinced the committee wouldn’t have placed LSU higher based on RPI. More than likely you are right that the tournament just didn’t matter, but I wouldn’t go so far as to say there was no chance of Top 8.

The one guy who does a legitimate softball bracketology has LSU #7 right now. Top 8 is absolutely a possibility.
