As a coach - I can tell you the intent is often to get the players to put some equity into the team.

So many these days are spoiled rotten because mommy and daddy will write the thousand dollar check for the latest gear, travel team, recruiting service, etc.

It’s a shame that rather than have their kid do some work to support the team, the parents just bitch at the coach and write another check.

but thats not what ends up happening.

you end having kids bugging the parents friends and family or bugging all the local business owners.

fine going to the business owners if you do business with them. in a small town atleast what happens is everyone ends up asking all the same business owners and most of the time the parents or the coaches dont even do business there.

same coaches want the business owners to support football, boys bball, girls bball, softball, baseball, track, volleyball, cheer, danceline/band.

sure its fine in city the size of BR but the smaller towns...the small businesses are tapped out.

just tell the parents up front how much it cost and offer advertising for the local businesses for the rest. much easier than trying to teach a life lesson that doesnt work. especialyl for younger kids who cant drive yet.

Agreed - but that’s on us as parents.
