When I saw him in October, I guess he was already sick. I didn't know. I hadn't seen him in years. Towards the end of our conversation, I said Brother Ray you're slipping, and he looked at me puzzled. I said, you didn't ask me what the definition of "plot" was. He laughed and said he would never do that, and I reminded him that he threatened us with that back in 8th grade if he ever saw us in public as an adult. For posterity's sake, I rattled it off and he got a kick out of that.

I was just talking to my brother and he mentioned that no matter how many years went by, if he ran into my parents he’d ask how my brother was doing by name. The man must have had an extraordinary memory.
