Set an outlook alarm for 6 months out next year and hope you get lucky. Camping spots in the popular national parks are like getting concert tickets now. Check to see which parts of the park require a permit for entry and set an alarm for those too.
I would think early summer would be better than fall at Yosemite. Some of the waterfalls dry up later in the summer and I’d expect em to be dry in September.
Crowds are crowds there, you aren’t getting around it. Go early to the places you want to see.
