This was on here last week.

Either marketing pulled a fast one on corporate or corporate is throwing marketing under the bus

No matter how you slice it, they are trying to say “we fricked up” without accepting responsibility.

They pushed the envelope too far and have a scapegoat. They’ll push it further in another 10 years, and this will seem mild in comparison. The whole industry is out there to drive division among the “regular” folks to drive up conversation about their products and expose “regular” people to what they feel they need to educate “us” about.
