Since all of you are so obsessed with me accidentally including an extra “are”, I apologize for my a mistake and trying to get my post out quickly.
Now, as a principal the safety of my students, teachers, staff, and volunteers in my school are my sole responsibility. A responsibility I take very seriously. As a public school, I can’t simply go out and hire armed guards, I would if I had it in my budget, believe me! We have resource officers that service certain areas that include elementary, middle, and high schools. Where do you think they spend their time?
I have spent every cent of my grant funds on upgrading the safety equipment of our school for years. But when I saw the video of that POS shooting out the door, the reality of how vulnerable we are became crystal clear.
I have advocated for more funds for safety improvements, more resource officers, and annual budget funds excluding grant funds.
To address some of you, there is no teacher’s union in GA. This post is not about me, but maybe it will actually get some of you involved in your local school boards and let your voices be heard about funding at your children’s school.
