I've gone back and watched the first 1.5 episodes so far and I'm actually surprised how much of a sympathetic figure Kendall is presented as

He's 3 years sober and they have been operating on a plan of him taking over as CEO for 18 months then out of the blue his dad rips it out from under him for no real reason and really doesn't even tell him about it just others

THEN Logan has his brain hemorrhage and yes Kendall remains ambitious but the core executives really push him into taking over the temporary CEO spot when he really doesn't even want to get into it bc he's worried about his dad. The core executives rightly explain to Kendall how while it's unfortunate, because of market concerns, they basically have to talk about it. The core wants to follow the established plan (at least established until about 5 minutes ago) of Ken being new CEO and going that route. Ken reluctantly takes this notion to his siblings who
Flip out on him for being a monster and ambitious during this difficult time and of course they don't want him to be acting CEO anyways

Obviously we have always known Logan is the one who really fricked up the kids but it's interesting right after the finale going back and seeing how Kendall at the beginning of the series was mostly (Vaulter fiasco aside) acting compentently and in a professional manner AND not being extremely cut throat and selfish as we'd see later on while Logan was acting pretty petulantly on his own whim. Frank even seems to have some confidence in Kendall at the beginning . I will keep rewatching but this sequence I assume helps turn Kendall into the selfish monster he becomes. You can tell he's really trying to act in as unselfish way as anyone could expect so far

Key words......SO FAR...

He left the negotiation table and ended up with a bad deal that only proved to get worse. Logan saw that and knew he couldn’t be CEO

It was made quite clear that the core didn’t want the top job because of the loan (and also likely cruises but that’s brought up later) and didn’t want the blame if things went poorly.

They were setting Kendall up because he’s impetuous
