Man, youth sports are a racket...

100% this. I was in your shoes last year. My daughter (no pics, fricking pervs) had a bunch of her friends in middle school decide they wanted to try out for cheer at her school. My wife (once again, no pics) thought it would be a swell idea for my daughter to get into cheer practice since she had never done it before just to get her feet wet before the tryout. We signed her up at a cheer studio by the house, which is literally slang for a money laundering operation for the lifted F250, White Oakley, truck nuts, tats all over crowd. I'm not really complaining about the clientele, I train BJJ and those same folks make up most of our school but it was quite comical watching these parents and how much money they spend to get their daughters ready for these so called cheer competitions which are really the end game for these cheer studios.

I will say if your daughter gets super involved with cheer, hopefully she can make the school cheer team where these cheer competitions kinda miraculously stop since there isn't enough time for these kids to do school cheer and these dumb shite competitions. Good luck!

There is an endless well of money if you can tap into people's vanity, especially parents trying to live vicariously through their kids.

School cheer around here is just as competitive if not more than the all-star cheer. Practices 4-5 days a week almost year round, plus cheering at all the games and traveling to out of state competitions. There are hardly any schools lately that just have them cheer for the games without also doing competitions.
