Three pages and only one mention of The Outlaws? I guess it depends on how you define Southern Rock. As iconic as Skynyrd was/is, in my opinion they almost became caricatures of themselves and the songs started to sound alike. Allmans were more blues than Southern. And maybe it’s just a matter of taste; I much prefer the style and sound of the early-to-mid Outlaws. Hurry Sundown doesn’t have a dud on it. Green Grass is their Freebird. The double guitars on There Goes Another Love Song will give you chills, I Can’t Stop Loving You will make you cry. And to cement their Southernness, Breaker Breaker is 10-8 fer sure, and they did a great cover of Ghost Riders, yeehaw. For whatever reason, they never had the commercial success the bigger names had, but they’d be my pick.
