Good question, I see both sides. I think probably the answer is that they were AOR with southern roots and influences. Sure they had Donnie Van Zandt but really their big hits were with Don Barnes on lead vocals, who leans more into AOR. During Barnes's hiatus they really leaned more into AOR and there really wasn't much at all Southern Rock in their sound.
