No one has ever discussed this topic. They played both UNLV and Loyola Marymount at home (it was exactly 1 month a day after playing LSU that Hank Gathers dropped dead on the court) and beat both, but lost to teams like MSU and Florida who were not good.
I think they lost in the first round of the SEC tournament to someone that wasn't good at all.
What does that say about a team when you can beat good teams, but lose to bad teams? It means they have the talent to be anyone in the country, but a coach who doesn't know how to properly manage the talent.

We lost to a 13 win Auburn team in the SEC tourney. Something else excuse makers never talk about is that LSU was ranked #2 in the country to start that season. The season was a massive failure by our coach.
