My kids have gotten old enough where being drunk in front of them would be damaging. This combined with the fact that I'm a problem drinker, i.e. "Why have 2 drinks when you can have 8" meant it was time to get the bull by the horns.
I won't call myself a sober person because I'm not. But not drinking is a hell of an upgrade to regular life when you've suffered through hundreds of hangovers.
