Because we are so much free time. Back in the 50's & 60's men did everything, except clean house, make sandwiches and have babies. There wasn't time to worry about things, or spend all day posting on bulletin boards. Most of them didn't consult friends or associates when making big decisions. They just made them and lived with them.

Men had to be physically strong to do manual labor. Even executive types mowed their own yards, and fixed things around the house. They all knew how to change their oil. My dad overhauled the straight six engine in our 1963 Ford a couple of times in the backyard.

Today we just expect to be able to pull out money and pay someone to do stuff. It gives us lots of free time to over-think everything.

I would imagine there were lots of people that had mental problems that were never talked about. Everyone just accepted the fact that daddy was a hot head, who might beat his wife for not having a sandwich ready when he came in from plowing his garden.

Hope everyone knows I'm just blowing smoke in an effort to sound tough. How'd I do?
