I would have thought this too, but I had an elderly Daigle woman tell me recently that they did their ancestry and discovered they came from Austria.

Was probably spelled Daigl or Dagl back in the old country.

I find even Cajuns are submitting to the English pronunciation, it’s as cringy as pronouncing the s in Dugas
