I'm not certain that I'd agree that the benefits and profits outweigh the costs when the cost is our liberty and independence. We're essentially on-call for the rest of the world whenever they have a problem and want someone else to
1) pay for, and
2) perform the dirty work

Every treaty a nation enters into with another nation requires, of necessity, a loss of some degree of sovereignty. Right now, I don't know that we have maintained our nation's sovereignty enough to be anything other than subject to the whines and demands of our European "allies."
