There is nothing bizarre about it really--people are going to gravitate towards Trump alternatives, of which DeSantis is so far the best on paper.
Particularly when you consider that Donald Trump is not(or should not be) a serious option for Republicans, assuming that one actually wants the Republican nominee to win the general election.
