Skenes hitting would make the lineup terrifying

Yes, Skenes being fully healthy for Friday night’s is of the utmost importance, but players pitching and hitting is not this automatic sentencing to injury
Obviously Skenes did it at Air Force. Florida has a guy doing it, and doing it at a very high level. The best player in mlb does it.
Dugas 2B
Crews CF
Morgan LF
White 3B
Jones 1B
Joubert RF
Skenes DH
Neal C
Thompson SS
This lineup would be absolutely lethal in postseason play

Shohei is the exception not the rule. Skenes is perfectly lethal on the mound. This isn’t a video game. We have guys that can fill that hitter’s role just fine

dude can rake. why not give him a shot at it in the midweek game and see how it goes?

Do you realize the amount of successful college players that both hit and pitched?

No need to risk a twisted ankle or hit in the face with a pitch.

Do you realize that the best freshman in college baseball last year injured himself on the basepaths in his first game of the season?
These guys aren’t invulnerable superheroes. There’s absolutely no reason to put your ace and rotational anchor at risk because the fans want to ooh and ahh at the scoreboard during the midweek. This team is deep enough to where we don’t need to do that, which is why CJJ doesn’t have him in the lineup. Some of y’all need to use your brain

Are we saving him for SEC play?
At the rate we are going and the schedule that is upcoming we may not lose a game until the Tennessee series.
So, give him the whole month of March to stay healthy and pitch, but then come game 2, April 1, of the Tennessee series throw him in as a pinch hitter when it best benefits the team.

I know it's somewhat frequent. But how often is that guy the clear-cut Friday night ace for his team? Honestly asking, I'm sure it's happened, but not often. Way I see it is that we don't really need his bat at all, but we really, really need his arm. I don't really want us to do anything that might jeopardize his role as our ace.

Yea because Arkansas is a pushover. Some of y’all have forgotten Iowa already

Skenes is more at risk throwing a baseball than swinging a bat

You don’t watch baseball if you believe this dude. One high fastball to the dome and we are ruined

McKay from Louisville immediately comes to mind — he went top 5 and then got injured, twice … while pitching
The guy at Florida is crushing in both
Skenes did it last year

LSU has lost a weekend rotation piece due to TJ each of the past 3 seasons

Pitchers get hurt way more often than swinging a bat and running the bases

You must be upvoting yourself.
We have lost far more pitchers over the years for throwing than any other injuries combined. Check our injury list now for players that aren't even suited up.

I don't see anything wrong with getting some at bats on non pitching nights from time to time. When it comes to the postseason, you need to play the best players.

This. Add to that we have the deepest bats we've had in years. No need to take unnecessary risks with your Friday starter with that being the case. I think Jay knows what he's doing

It has nothing to do with the relative risks of hitting versus pitching, dumbass. It has to do with increasing the player’s aggregate risk of injury from all causes
Think through a situation before you post this dumb shite again

Or a jammed wrist or shoulder running the bases.
Which Morgan and White might be able to play through but would be a fricking disaster for a pitcher

That doesn't mean there isn't risk having him bat and run the bases. This isn't about comparing the two but talking about the total risk with doing both at the same time and what trait of his is more valuable to this team. We just had one of our biggest bats dislocate his shoulder on a pickoff move at first base. Now imagine something like that happens to your Friday night ace. What if he sprains an ankle or his knee like Morgan did last year running through first base. A pitcher can't just play through that. We can afford not to have his bat. We can't afford to lose him as a starting pitcher. Mitigating unnecessary risks is part of Jay's job.
Skenes was a solid hitter. He's an All-American pitcher.

I've thought it through, I decided two things
1. I'll take that risk every time to win a championship
2. Meet me at sonic
