Yeah son is 12, 6th grade. He’s starting to say, “that’s gay”
My 16 and 13 yo are finally getting over that after me beating it into their heads that while we don’t buy into or support that BS but we also don’t use it as an insult.
If you had told me at 16 that I was going to be getting onto my 16 yo son for calling something gay, I would have laughed at you.
My opinion hasn’t changed one iota from when I was 16, I just understand there’s no reason to be an a-hole about it.

There's a pretty thin line between being an a-hole and allowing a small minority to dictate the lexicon. I don't know if you've noticed, but giving in on one thing is never enough and it's usually just rewarding a group for bullying. And you know what that leads to.

It's like many thing in life: you want to push people to be the best they can be, but pushing too hard beyond what they can control starts to become cruel. The sigmoidal curves that show up everywhere in life - the more you approach the extreme ends of the curve, it becomes harder and harder to reap fewer and fewer rewards.
In other words, if you tolerate EVERYTHING then you will let every bit of evil run rampant, but if you tolerate NOTHING then there is no room for any good.
