What was their average cap hit?

Literally a worthless ranking.

So the cap hit means something now? With as much as we have manipulated the cap over the years that number is suppose to mean anything. Winston’s cap was way below 15 this year, so it goes both ways.

That poster thought 15 a year was low. About half the league QBs made less. That’s cash that they made with several making that on one year deals.

The cap hit aside, I would think you would want to try to avoid being in the soft-middle which is paying a big salary to a player who is not a big upgrade. The difference between the best and let's say 6th best qb to be generous is not massive. The gap between 6 and 14 in terms of production over replacement value is pretty big. What gets you askew is paying what it takes to get the 14th best qb (if that's truly where Carr is) when it is out of whack with what he can deliver. Being saddled with it for 3 years and the accompanying cap hit when you move on I think is a real issue.

Will be interesting to see if they want to overpay for a league average qb. How much better would Carr make the Saints over, let's say Cooper Rush who is average at best? How much better would Carr be than Mayfield? I wouldn't think the gap would justify the cost.

I said average cap hit, which reflects the actual amount paid over the contract. Just to be clear, I'm saying the average of all cap hits of the contract the team realized. The money actually paid to a player will be accounted on the cap, one way or another, which is reflected in the total cap hits.

You do realize we ultimately pay the piper, on our cap, right?

First of all, the starting QB contracts should not be based on a population of all starters. Remove rookie contracts and it's a legitimate comparison (since Rookies don't get market rate due to CBA manipulation).

Second, as shown above, the article didn't use good data.

So, a bad population to compare + bad data compared. Quality output is guaranteed.
