Unfortunately I agree with you here. I will be happy if he proves me wrong. The issue here is not whether he can throw a random deep ball from time to time. It is whether he can lean on his downfield passing when the going gets tough against quality opponents late in the game.
My agreement with your OP was formed last season in the last 4-5 games and he could not execute the passing game effectively.
