It needs to be reformed. Push back retirement age and / or means test.

But it's the disheveled mess we made, and we have to continue the support of the elderly not just because of the promise made to seniors, but to broaden the load of "family" across the breadth of the entire nation since we already have single-handedly fricked ourselves out of a national identity of a nation holding to the family structure. We've made it into the nanny state and there's no way to turn it around. This ship is going to crash. Crash hard, too, splittering into maybe 3-5 new nations, not that Texas wasn't already a nation, but I digress.

Well most kept working till they died. I agree families stepped in and the disintegration of the nuclear family is probably the single biggest negative event that’s happened to the country.

SS doesn’t have to be what brings the economy down if we just take basic steps to shore it up and turn it back into what it’s original purpose was versus what too many use it for as a retirement plan.
