Sitting here doing my best NOT to work, I started thinking about the losses from last year's team.

Offense:

Matt Flynn
Early Doucet

Defense:

Craig Steltz
Glen Dorsey

Those four guys were arguably (or maybe not even arguably) the leaders of the offense and defense, respectively. It is apparent to me through the inconsistent play that new leaders have not stepped up.

Hopefully a couple of guys on both sides of the ball takes this team over in the spring. On offense it has to be the quarterback, be it Lee, Jefferson, Sheppard, or Hatch. On defense, I think Jai Eugene and Patrick Peterson appear to have the charismatic personality to influence the entire defense.

Regardless, the QB situation will improve but if someone doesn't take over this team as a leader the inconsistent play will continue.

Well, that killed 10 minutes of my work day. What next?

I think you're missing somebody on offense.

Early was a lead by example type and made a lotta clutch plays, he goes down as a leader in my book.

Carnell Stewart?

I see your point with Jacob Hester, but I think the leadership roll obviously falls on the QBs shoulders. The same could be said about Scott, he definitely leads with his style of play, but he isn't on the field every play.

Regardless, it doesn't appear anyone on this team rises to the level of Hester. I agree.

leaders will only be noticed when you are winning. if, last year, we finished the season at 8-4, they wouldn't have gotten the same "leadership" notification.

I posted this very same thing last week. Team leaders are just as important at coaches IMO. Great team leadership is the key to consistency and eliminating the rollercoaster of emotions throughout the year.
It's going to be the same at Bama next year unless someone steps up.
We lose a great deal of leadership in Rashad Johnson (49) and Caldwell (59) the center. Those guys were placed as permanent captains in their Junior seasons.
IMO they are a big reason for our success and will be missed greatly.

I see Tyson trying to get the D pumped up in games but I just don't think is a true leader. I think maybe Chad Jones should step up or Peterson. As for offense I would have to say that Scott should take a stand but later down the road I think Lee will really come out and take over.

Miles is one of those Head coaches that doesn't believe in recruiting "Smart football players that make plays and display leadership qualities" to complement all the "Athletes that run real fast.".........
