I think most people who are in charge of things understand this balloon is flying at a high enough altitude that we cant just send a plane and shoot it down, before we get into the fact of controlling how the debris will land, and it isnt a real national security threat to the degree that we'd want to use the shite that we want to keep secret

If anything its biggest aim is most likely to cause internal division, or the off chance of getting us to reveal more of our air defenses
