feel it out, you know your buddy better than us... but your "in" to the conversation should be right after he complains about how tired he is, or how he feels like shite/can't focus, etc... that's when you hit him with the "do you think you may be too dependent on them" question, then hit him with facts, and tell him how common this shite is... he's not alone, and would have your support through it all...
