They'll likely adjust the schedule where they still get the same number of instructional days/minutes. States have a minimum number of days/minutes they have to attend. So your kid isn't missing any instruction. It's simply structured differently.

So simple that yall get more time off Why not just do 3 12 hour day? Not like the kids retaining any of the information matters. Just cram it all in.

They're still doing the job that has been asked of them. But instead of it being extra service pay, it'll be embedded in a work day. It will also save districts money in transportation costs. They're literally saving tax payers money.

Like a dime of yalls budget would go back to the taxpayers in ths scenario How stupid do you think people are?

If they utilize that on the non-instructional day (and most districts that do this do) they save money in not having to pay those teachers extra pay because it's during a contract day AND they save money in transportation for students who don't need extra assistance.

And for the vast majority that now need they kids to be watched on that extra day? They're saving money how?

Who's getting more time off? Again, teachers and staff are still reporting on non-instructional days. Are you just skimming over that?

Then take that up with the state congress that alots that budget, bud. That's not the school district's problem that their excess monies that go back to the state aren't spent correctly. Do you not understand how government works or something?

Districts I've seen do this have coordinated with community services to provide childcare if needed. And a YMCA worker is significantly cheaper than a teacher, so yes they're still saving money.

Why do you have this school district saving money for the taxpayers so much?

Avoyelles Parish has been four days for the last several years. I am not saying it is because of this, but school scores have improved dramatically and the overall district score went from a D to a B this past year. Teacher and student absenteeism is down, and you do get some financial savings when it comes to the cost of busing, food, and utilities. Avoyelles also has Mondays off and the reasoning behind that was because the calendar already had several Mondays off (Labor Day, MLK, etc.) it allows to not have to take off for those days. Also many doctors offices and the like work a half day on Fridays so having the Monday off would allow parents to have more options when making those types of appointments. Some parents were against it at first but now the overwhelming majority of the parents support it.
