I'd say don't limit yourself to full size, just because it's for home defense. However, you can't go wrong with....
Sig P226, P229, P320 (full or carry); H&K VP9-B (i don't care for the paddle mag release); S&W 2.0C; Walther PDP or F-series.... and probably least mentioned, the Canik TP9 Elite.
