Best way to sell a car?

Better than trading in?
Is there a safe way to do this versus a dangerous way? And by that I mean obviously selling and getting a certified check from your buyer at the bank and not just taking cash or check at the site of sale.

Four wheel magazine trader?
Facebook marketplace?

Or parked in a public place.
Sounds like you've already got it figured out.
Get them to get bank check, and do the transaction at a third party location that specializes in title transfers etc.
The only real advantage to trading it in (at least in LA) is that you won't have to pay sales tax on the part of your new car that is offset by the trade in.
Relatively easy math to figure which way you come out ahead.
Of course, is it worth your time and effort to make that difference? Only you know that.

I’ve sold 3 cars on auto trader over the years with no issues. 2 people brought cashiers checks and one did cash. Was easy to validate checks with bank before signing over the title.
2 of these 3 I sold after dealerships offered me insulting trade in values and I did much better than the sales tax credit I would’ve received.
