I watched that "Dogs Decoded" documentary that showed wolves with a "tame gene" (that still exist today, btw) were the first approach humans who had food, and reciprocally, provided humans/food source protection.
As more random DNA changes happened (where snouts got shorter, ears got floppier, coats got spots, etc.) and artificial mixed-breeding flourished, I look at my GF's annoying chihuahua and think "Somehow, this fricker evolved from a wolf."
