More trouble seeing at distance than up close. Right eye worse than left.

This is semantics, but he's probably incorrect. Technically, most people in their 50s have cataracts. Whether or not they're visually significant is a different story.

Regardless, if your vision has decreased, and you have cataracts, surgery is the remedy. There are no eye drops or "shots" you can get in your eye to keep them from progressing as someone else mentioned in this thread.
