I like that idea. San Francisco a must for young kids? Was going to wharf, Alcatraz, Muir Woods, Chinatown and Golden Gate Bridge.

We did this exact route in the spring. Stayed in Monterey and explored Carmel and Big Sur from there. Highly recommended
