Well, it's just weird to make a deal out of the concept.

"You're dating a black girl?"

Literally anyone today would probably look at the person like that was the weird one. "Yeaaah... and?"

I feel that the "romantic partners from different cultures" trope doesn't work super well in modern America.

The "you're dating a black girl?" thing is actually more common than you would think. I've gotten "Wait, you're married to a black girl?" as a reaction more times than I can count. To me, the culture clash thing in this movie is what seems forced. We'll see if liberal jews vs. black Farrakhan supporters has some comedy to it. There's also a bit of "he's so desperate, now he's dating a black chick" in there, which is dumb. It should be out soon, right? We'll watch it, hopefully it's decent.

This is how the movie will play out.

The Jewish family and the black Muslim family will bicker and argue all movie over who is more oppressed and something will happen with a white supremacist to both families which will bring them closer together.

Because the swirl in that direction is decidedly rare. So much so that when I see that IRL, I go, "Hmm. That's different." To myself, of course.

That's the foundation of the conflict: "white society view: 'look at the white person, they must not be able to get another white person'". While that view is still held in a lot of instances, it's more and more often a holdout from pre-90's/00's generational mindsets. Along with that though, there's also the little used: "black society view: 'look at the black person, they must think they are too good for another black person'". This view has always been every bit as prevalent in its respective community, just not often brought up in movies/tv.

Comedy is a great tool for pointing out the absurdities in society. Taking the black/white relationship issue to the more honest view of "it happens from both sides" and then doubling down on that with a radical view of Islam vs. Jews descended from Holocaust survivors as a balancing tool to point out the absurdity in trying to claim the higher victim status has potential, especially considering those family leads are played by Julia and Eddie (roles they shine in).

I’ve never once heard this sentiment. Seems strange bc I don’t think most black women want a white guy. So black chicks are harder to get IMO.

Oriental chicks never liked me which made me sad.
