Let's look at the facts:
On Offense:
1. LSU and Alabama are both averaging 32 pts per game.
2. LSU is 3rd in the SEC in passing yards behind Georgia and Florida.
3. Bama is second to last in the conference in passing yards.
4. Bama is leading the conference in rushing yards. LSU is not far behind as the 4th best rushing team in the conference.
On Defense:
1. Bama is the second most stingy defense in the conference, LSU is second to last in Points Per Game allowed.
2. Bama is 9th in passing yards allowed, LSU is 5th (Surprising, isn't it?)
3. Bama does lead the confernce is rushing yards allowed, but LSU is not far behind with the 4th toughest rush defense in the conference.

So what does all that mean?
The Offenses are about the same. We're both scoring the same amount of points and we're both running the ball well. However we're allowing way too many points. Not all of which are given up on Defense! But there are enough positives to put together a good gameplan.
1st Half gameplan:
Keep the game tight through the first half. The closer this game is, the more pressure will be on this YOUNG Bama team. How do we do that?
Don't throw the ball in the 1st Qtr. Feed Scott, Williams and Murphy the ball. The point is to chew up the clock and limit early possessions for Bama. If we can just limit the mistakes in the passing game, we can keep this game close. The objective is to get to the 2nd half with the game within 7 points either way.
If we can keep the game close until the 2nd half, we've got a shot.
2nd Half Gameplan:
Run the ball and limit mistakes on Offense.
Also, turn up the pressure on Bama to try and stay perfect. How do we do that??????
We capitalize on the BIGGEST advantage in this damn game. TIGER STADIUM!!!
We need to make that place rock! All the pressure is on Bama, not us! No one even expects us to win. Make it as uncomfortable as humanly possible!
Has our Defense given us much confidence this year? No. But when a bully comes and messes with you, you don't back down just because you might get your arse kicked.
Might we lose this game? Yea, we might. But let's give our boys the best possible advtange they can have. THEY NEED IT!!!
They have practiced damn hard, and its time for us to show them the same dedication to LSU football. Do your part and make Tiger Stadium ROCK!!
And let's send that prick home with a loss and squash their Championship hopes!!!!

I'm not sure that the passing yardage stats versus Bama tell the entire story. Likely more a sypmton of the large leads they've enjoyed and teams throwing more as a result.
I think it's highly unlikely that you can go the entire 1st quarter without throwing the football, but I do agree that weathering the 1st quarter and not giving up the momentum early are HUGE in this game.

That and the fact that teams just can't run the ball at all on Bama.

Yea, but we are not trying to keep an undefeated season alive along with National Championship hopes.
Point is this: It is going to be harder for them to do that in a hostile environment so we should take advantage of that fact.

The part that surprised me was that LSU was 5th in passing yards allowed. I thought it would be much worse.
I think that is the result of giving up so many points on turnovers.

Alabama's passing numbers are down because the running game is #1 in the SEC...plus Bama doesn't need to throw the ball much in the 2nd half.
Conversely, LSU's passing numbers are up because they've been forced into a passing offense in a few games.
I promise you that Bama's passing game has a much better chance to exploit LSU's defense than LSU's runn or pass offense of exploiting Bama's defense.
Bama will pass to get the lead early...and pound the ball to kill the clock late...and there won't be any way for LSU to stop it.

Uhh, no. You can't just run the ball on every down against a solid run defense. LSU would have a dozen 3 and outs in the first half with Bama putting 8 or 9 in the box.
You have to mix up play calling and throw some new wrinkles at them. The more complex the offense is, the more off balance the defense will become.
I'd like to see LSU get the ball to the outside a lot; be that sweeps or screens or whatever. ama's interior D linemen are as slow as they come and can't persue.
