If you buy your Ribeyes from the mexican meat truck at the gas station with a sign that says 10 steaks for 39.99, you can marinate with whatever. It won't matter.
If your buying decent meat you should never marinate a ribeye.

Every now and then, my wife will pick up a cheap cut from the butcher that requires a marinade. It's not ideal, but sometimes necessary to make a lesser piece of meat work.
