I read Watts words from a couple days ago and I feel much better. Apparently Ricks is not an elite player in the eyes of Saban and his staff. They view him as a guy who could maybe start by year 2 or 3 in the program and is a depth/backup guy for them. They wanted Brown who went to Miami. He was their elite target.

Ricks is seen as a rotational guy who lacks that difference making ability.

So if that’s the case he’s overrated and wouldn’t have been a difference maker here either

I’m excited to see what tmrw brings

So LSU saw his a a difference maker and probably day 1 starter and Bama sees him as a year 3 starter and situational rotation player and he's still choosing to go to Bama. That's not ideal.

How do you know Bama views him only as a backup or year 2-3 rotational player?
Its clear Bama had the other kid higher on their board, but that does not mean they do not believe Ricks as a starter year 1 or 2.
This thread begins to sound a lot like Bama threads when they lose a kid: "he really isn't that good", "we backed away", "locker room, character issues..."
The kid was valued enough to be in a last minute bidding contest between LSU and Alabama. This is a loss, but as Jake says, nobody should be surprised.

Some of those was just him playing to their fanbase when he thought they lost out. But there is a little truth there, as well.

Ricks is very talented, but he’s also going to be a high school senior playing in an SEC program because he reclassified. He’s not going to be ready to play day one. He wouldn’t have been here either, as much as some of you don’t accept that. He would have played more and sooner here, but he’s going to need time to get his body ready to play at this level.

We could have used a guy like him ready to step in as the guy the next year, but Harris is no consolation prize. He has experience and multiple years to play. If we can bring in another CB who is ready to play day one, then we are still in good shape to bring in more depth in next year’s class.
