Hunted both and both were epic

I was a Senior in high school in '89. We absolutely slaughtered the ducks. That was when the limit was 3. I think we were still on the the points system and Mallard drakes were 35 so you could only kill 2 and a kicker. Our buddies dad was one of the owners of Pin Oak Mallards out on Highway 15 East of Monroe and you couldn't fit another Mallard in that place. We were the 2nd shift for almost a week. It was fun but the other owner Ace Cullum wanted us out as quick as we limited because he could be an arse back in them days. It literally took like 20 minutes to limit and there were usually 5 or 6 of us. There were so many ducks they kept the holes open. Then we found a place on the back side of the old reservoir that was being kept open by runoff, which I figured sewage since it stunk worse than Wham Brake. It was technically not on Pin Oaks so we hunted that spot every afternoon. Yes, there were some rules broken and Holy frick it was cold. I think it was single digits highs for almost a week in Monroe. I laugh when I go home for Christmas now and watch the weather because every day the record low was set in 1989 for almost every day.

The only thing I remember about 1983 is we rode a 3 wheeler across Tupwaw Bayou in West Monroe behind my Paw Paw's house. It seemed insane at the time and probably was but that ice was thick.
