I'm surprised you both dislike it so much but I have seen plenty of fair criticism of the movie especially with regards to the action scenes and how unrealistic they are. To each their own but I enjoyed it.
Maybe it was the way Shia yelled "on the way" every time he fired the tank. Don't know why but I thought that was awesome

Fair enough. Maybe I should watch it again. It ticks all the boxes for a movie I should like. Could have been my expectations were to high based on message boards.

Some of the scenes are ridiculous but that is absolutely how it goes down.
Tank commander gives initial fire command "gunner, sabot tank"
Gunner identifies target "Identify"
Loader arms main gun and gets out of the recoil of the breach and yells "Up"
Tank commander gives gunner permission to engage "fire and adjust"
Gunner pulls trigger and yells "on the way"
