Corporations are just like any other community. You have all types. And though those types are all over my organization, I am the antithesis of that. I extract monies from my soul-sucking multi-National employer and bemoan their idiocy at every turn. I do not care if they fire me for not playing their games, and I let that be known, for I will be gainfully employed shortly thereafter.
I tried explaining to a woman the other day at a Xmas party in my neighborhood that I have no career aspirations and have no desire to be promoted because I make far more than my boss and all I care about is my compensation. She said “that’s so sad” - I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.

That is true, there are different kinds of corporate environments.

That's all I used to care about as well, and yes, it's sad.
Once I realized that I didn't have to work for money anymore, and I could just do work that I wanted to do without considering compensation, it was a liberating revelation.

I think she meant to convey she was looking for some light banter and an enjoyable, care-free shag that night, but then you killed her buzz with the heavy talk and John Bender act.
