Amex point transfer question

I got a platinum card in Jan 2022 with a dream of traveling internationally on vacations with the wife (no pics). However, with three kids, international travel just isn't for us just yet - we need domestic travel points like a United or Southwest card I think. So, I'm looking to cancel.

BUT - I have 430,000 amex points I need to transfer/use. I'm thinking about transferring them all over to an international partner (Virgin/British Airways for example) and holding on to them there to one day book a first class international flight.

Any advice?

TIA

Following this. Going to run into the same issue soon enough. Feel like the transfer option as well as statement redemption aren't great options but idk much about amex points. I just jumped on the platinum signup bonus and figure the rest out later.

I wouldn't do this because you'll just put yourself in a worse situation. Better to keep it with Amex.

I'd probably open an Amex Everyday no fee card so you can keep your MR points at no cost when you cancel the Platinum.

Once you have a plan revisit your redemption options.

Valuable lesson here is to have a plan before applying and racking up points.

In your opinion is it better to transfer points to partners to book flights / hotels, or just book directly through the AmEx rewards travel page so they automatically apply the points to your purchase?

The Amex points work for domestic travel just as well.

Which transfer partner? I live in Houston, which is a United and Southwest hub. Transferring to Delta is a disaster. I guess I just anticipated using the miles with good value domestically to be more intuitive. Certainly doesn't look that way.

Yes, but that's because I do that for international business class.

Way more fun!

You can transfer them to me for 75% of the value.

Ahh I forgot about that. Is American not an option for you?
