You’d have to ignore a mountain of truly awful movies to say that one is the “worst.” It’s a kinda cute, kinda cool Christmas time warp with some very memorable scenes and moments. It does seem to go out of its way to portray the father as an emotional incompetent boob. The mall Santa scene and some of the daydream scenes are good.

Does it? I mean, yes, the father is a comedic figure in many respects. He's the bread winner, and has his own issues, but the movie shows that while he may not necessarily be completely continuously present in everyone's lives, he does love and care for his family. He's the one who surprised Ralphie with the BB gun after all. He also saves the day after the turkey is ruined by taking charge and taking everyone to the Chinese restaurant, which creates a find memory for Ralphie.
