I wonder how NIL is affecting players at their prep schools. Navy used to send a good number of kids to their prep school but they don’t have a commitment to attend the Academy.
Pretty sure that’s not the case? I have a good friend that went to the academy and started at the prep school for football and pretty sure he was full academy. Maybe not.
The problem with the academies is you can still go rotc and be an officer. So to go to the academy you have to basically be full in 0% chance of pro ball. Anywhere else you could do rotc or commit later to the military and not be 100% as a HS senior.

I don’t know about now, but Roger Staubach did a 4 year tour of duty including a year in Vietnam after graduating the naval academy and did pretty good with the Dallas Cowboys.
I guess he’s the exception to the rule.
