It’s real, with a legit pathophysiologic basis. Seems to be autoimmune and has been associated with type 1 diabetes, thyroiditis, vitiligo, and pernicious anemia. So maybe she’s really black, but the vitiligo and anemia make her look white, and that explains the voice. I don’t know.

I was just reading about it. Apparently it’s an awful way to go. Very similar to ALS.
