quote:I guess you failed common fricking sense.
Guess you failed thermodynamics but keep going…
If I were wrong, hybrids would't exist and diesel-electric locomotives wouldn't exist.
The efficiency gains are primarily due to 2 reasons:
1. Heat engines get more efficient with increased size, and a generator which powers an EV charger will be much larger than a typical passenger vehicle engine.
2. Generators are designed to be efficient at the RPM at which they run. Engines in passenger vehicles turn at a wide range of RPMs, most of which aren't very efficient. Think of the electric motors as a CVT which is able to extract peak torque and peak efficiency from an ICE engine at the same time.
This is calculated and predicted by thermodynamics, and is proven in the real world via measurement.
And it is also why you were wrong above when you called another poster a "dipshit". Since electricity can be produced from gasoline and other fuels, it can never cost more to run an EV than it will to run an ICE vehicle. It may happen in the very short term in localized areas, but the cost of fuels is a cap on the cost of electricity, and EVs utilize the stored energy more efficiently.

Hey a-hole, go look at the situation in Europe, they are already running into this problem. People can’t afford to charge their EVs bc of cost of electricity (bc of the cost of Nat gas) and the gov is asking folks to stop charging at certain hours bc they also don’t have enough power. Also, you act like Nat gas lines are readily available to all areas for running your dumbass EV charger? It’s not like molecules can just appear anywhere you wish at some fixed cost.
California can’t even handle the EVs they have; how will the grid handle an additional 100 million EVs to begin with ? Lol
